Life of a Teacher Reflection

Taking on the role of a teacher was an eye-opening experience that allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and rewards that come with teaching. Throughout these three days, I went through a range of emotions and learned valuable lessons about myself and the teaching profession. On the first day, I was filled with a mixture of excitement and anxiety. It was my first time being responsible for all aspects of a teacher's day, from handling registration to delivering lessons for an entire school day. The responsibilities of being the teacher for the day felt overwhelming at times. Planning lessons, managing classroom dynamics, and ensuring a conducive learning environment were tasks I had to juggle simultaneously. The initial challenges were primarily related to time management and keeping the students engaged throughout the day. As the second day rolled around, I started to feel more comfortable in my role. I had learned from my experiences on the first day and implemented improvements. My confidence in managing the classroom grew, and I found it easier to adapt to unexpected situations. However, the workload remained demanding, and I realized that maintaining students' attention and interest consistently required creative and engaging teaching methods. By the third day, I had settled into the routine of a teacher's life. While the challenges were still present, I had become more adept at handling them. I understood the importance of building a bond with students, which helped create a positive classroom atmosphere. Additionally, I became more proficient in time management, allowing myself to allocate sufficient time to various activities.

The most challenging aspect of this experience was managing classroom behaviour and ensuring that all students were actively participating. To overcome these challenges, I implemented a combination of a classroom management tool, and interactive teaching methods. It was essential to address disruptive behaviour while also recognizing and rewarding students for their engagement and contributions. I have improved the beginner teacher competences as I have developed a bond with learners and understand their individual educational needs. I have also developed my communication skills with not only learners but other staff members as well.

Furthermore, collaborating with colleagues was crucial in overcoming challenges. I received advice from experienced teachers who provided valuable insights and support. They shared their strategies for managing classroom dynamics and offered guidance on lesson planning and effective teaching techniques.

No one mentioned that being teacher would be easy - it comes with its days - but I definitely have heard that it is rewarding. Your range of emotions throughtout the 3 days have shown that you are in fact ready for the everyday classroom environment. Also judging from how well you have handled these days also shows that you are able to keep yourself in check, present and you get work done. Any learner would be lucky to have as their teacher.
